A man who served six years in prison for the nonfatal shooting of a 16-year-old girl now faces a murder charge because the woman died.
Michael Rashad Kee was previously charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill from the 1999 shooting. He later served six years in prison under a plea agreement.
Victim Candace Mitchell died from complications of her injuries last month, and Kee was indicted Monday on a murder charge. Authorities are now searching for Kee, whose last known address was in Durham.
