Scotland Co. Inmate Charged With Murder

A man serving a prison sentence for statutory rape has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of another inmate.

Correction Department spokesman Keith Acree says 25-year-old Edward Wiley was charged with murder in the death of Gary N. Bell.

The slaying occurred at the Scotland Correctional Institution and the 41-year-old Bell died Tuesday of multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Correction Department records show Bell was serving a 12-year sentence after being convicted in Sampson County as a habitual felon in 2002. Wiley was serving a 15- to 19-year sentence for statutory rape.
