The Dare County Health Department announced the winners for a school-wide poster and poetry contest this week in Manteo, promoting child abuse awareness.
April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month, and on Friday the top three winners from every school in the county were invited to the health department, where the three top prizes in Dare County will hang for the next few months. The theme this year was a recipe for a happy family, and child heath care nurses poured over posters and poetry all last week to pick the winners. We found students are learning more than just mixing colors and words on paper.
Every school in Dare County was represented in the contest, with the biggest participation yet for the annual event.
