Eastern Carolina Fugitive Caught After 27-Years

The last time law enforcement in North Carolina saw 52-year old Raymond Scully was when he escaped nearly 28-years ago. It was 1977. Scully was in Duplin County for a hearing on an escape charge from Pender County after being jailed on drug charges. That's when authorities say he took off again again. He's been on the run ever since. He fled to Texas, and according to authorities is married, has a 22-year old daughter and has led an exemplary life under the name of Steve Johnson. But a routine traffic stop last month turned up an expired inspection sticker and his true identity. Duplin County District Attorney Dewey Hudson says Scully worked for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission and Dell Computers. Hudson says he will not prosecute Scully on the escape charge and is recommending he be released on parole and sent back to his family in Texas.
