Guilty Verdict for Ft. Bragg Soldier

The verdict is in for a Fort Bragg soldier charged in a deadly attack on fellow soldiers in Iraq. A military jury convicted 33-year-old Hasan Akbar in the grenade and rifle attack on fellow troops waiting for orders to invade Iraq two years ago. Two officers were killed, fourteen other troops were injured. The jury's unanimous guilty verdict means Akbar could be sentenced to death. A sentencing hearing will be Monday. Meantime, in Iraq Thursday, six American contractors were among eleven people now reported dead after a helicopter crash. Those six men all worked for Blackwater USA, a security contractor based out of Currituck County.
