It's a little part of Edenton's past. But an 1820s smokehouse will have a big spot in telling that town's history for years to come. These guys are restoring the old smoke house, one of the last of its kind salvaged from a former plantation in Chowan County. And Thursday, it will be dedicated and become a part of the historic Edenton State Historic site. The smokehouse is now located behind the James Iredell House and will help historians share the story of an important part of Eastern Carolina's rural past, when buildings like this one served much like today's pantries and refrigerators did, in preserving food and now preserving the past, too.
