An important vote by Jacksonville's City Council Tuesday night on a new shopping center with some very big names and a big boost to the economy.
The spot is just west of the city, near the Highway 17 bypass. It would be home to a new shopping center, reportedly for a second Wal-Mart and second Lowes' Home Improvement store. But, to get it built, the council had to approve rezoning for eighty acres of the 111 acres site. After hearing from two local business leaders, both in support of that rezoning, the city council gave the Freedom Shopping Center project the green-light. Construction could begin as the state finishes the new Highway 17 bypass project in front of the site, later this year.
