Audit Questions School Spending

Video will be available shortly.

An audit of the Bertie County school system is causing many there to question the district's spending habits. Bertie County officials hired an independent company to conduct an audit of the Bertie County Schools after receiving several complaints from parents and teachers that materials like textbooks and computers weren't filtering down to schools. The audit found questionable spending on things like vehicles, cell phones and credit cards maintained by school officials. Throughout the audit, the budgeting by Bertie County Public Schools is called "ineffective." The school board meets formally with county commissioners Monday night, when the audit will be presented. That meeting is open to the public.
