Mexico Issues Arrest Warrant For Laurean

A U.S. Embassy official says Mexican officials have issued an arrest warrant for a U.S. Marine suspected of killing a pregnant colleague in North Carolina. Officials have been looking for Corporal Cesar Laurean, who is charged in Jacksonville with the death of Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach.

Authorities have said they thought Laurean fled to Mexico earlier this month. Lauterbach's body was found in a fire pit in Laurean's backyard. She had accused him of rape last year.

The prosecutor in Jacksonville said last week he would not seek a death sentence if Laurean is arrested in Mexico. The country refuses to return people to the United States who might face a death sentence.

Lauterbach had been missing since mid-December. Laurean left a note for his wife saying Lauterbach had come to their home, cut her own throat and he had buried her. But an autopsy indicates she died from a blow to the head.
