Inmates, Dogs Help Each Other

Video will be available shortly.

It's a pilot program aimed at finding unwanted dogs a home and helping inmates at the same time.

Craven Correctional Institution is one of a handful of facilities across the state participating in prison dog training. The institution received four dogs from local shelters in January and a selected group of inmates have been training the dogs in basic obedience and socialization skills since then.

Many of the inmates say the dogs made them better people and they're sad to see them go. The dogs graduated from the obedience program Wednesday. All but one dog have already been adopted.
