The lottery is getting closer to becoming reality in our state. Wednesday, North Carolina's House of Representatives approved a lottery plan. Here's what it included: Proceeds would be earmarked for school construction, scholarships and other education initiatives. The bill would ban lottery advertising anywhere, except the sites where tickets are sold. The House passed the plan by a 61 to 59 vote. The measure now goes to the Senate for consideration. The Senate historically has favored a lottery but hasn't voted on a bill in a dozen years. We'll keep you posted on the bill's progress.
