Lawmen say a Carteret County businessman, former state trooper, and community leader faces charges of embezzlement. Fifty-eight-year-old Jim Ferrell of Newport turned himself into authorities. He's accused of taking $7400 over the past year, while treasurer of the Carteret County Law Enforcement Officers Association. Ferrell is the owner of ABC Signs and president of the Newport Pig Festival. The District Attorney has requested the S.B.I. look into other community agencies of which Ferrell was involved.
