Close to 500 People Are Losing Their Jobs

Video will be available shortly.

Two of the largest tobacco operations in the world are combining forces and that means closing doors at one Wilson County plant.

Nearly 500 workers are losing their jobs in Wilson as Standard Commercial Tobacco combines with Virginia based Dimon Incorporated. Standard Commercial filed a notice with the state saying 491 workers will be laid off when the company closes one of its two Wilson tobacco factories in May.

Dimon is buying Standard for $255 million, plus debt. The combined tobacco operation will be called Alliance One International.
