The former Hampton Shirt Factory in Kinston is finally being torn down. It has vacant for almost 20 years. A demolition crew is dismantling the structure, located at the corner of Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard and King Street, brick by brick. Kinston deputy city manager Phil Robey says the structure has become a potential threat to the public's safety. Although nothing is planned for the site right now, it's hoped it will be a springboard for redevelopment. The demolition crew will sell most of the bricks to the city of Raleigh, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
