New Fire Station for Washington?

The city of Washington is growing in leaps and bounds, but that could pose as safety problem when it comes to protecting the entire city in case of an emergency, according to fire officials.

In order to improve response time and provide more efficient fire protection for the city, plans to build another fire station are in the works and could be finalized by June. However expanding the fire department here is being met with opposition. Washington fire officials say a price tag of over a million dollars to build another location and hire more first responders and that has some questioning the need. The fire chief however believes residents will support the measure, because in doing so insurance rates could decline.

Page Road could be the site of the new department, according to Chief Davis. City officials will meet in May to make a final decision.
