The sunrise services weren't all outdoors Sunday. At the Haw Branch Church of Christ in Beaufort County the threat of rain made parishioners head indoors for their Easter Sunday service at 6:30 a.m. However, the service didn't suffer. Church members still heard wonderful singing, acting, and worshipping. Minister DJ Maxey says the tradition of sunrise services comes from the Easter story of women being the first to learn of the resurrection that first Easter morning.

After the service, members and guests were invited to the fellowship hall for a breakfast of pancakes and sausages.
