There appears to be progress in the investigation of the slaying of a North Carolina hiker and the disappearance of her husband.
The Transylvania County sheriff says investigators have established a positive link between the slaying of Irene Bryant, the disappearance of her husband, John, and the man charged with killing a young hiker in Georgia.
But Sheriff David Mahoney is declining to discuss the details of the link between Gary Michael Hilton and the Bryants.
Meanwhile in Georgia, authorities are looking for an abandoned van they say belonged to Hilton. Investigators say the van isn't the white van Hilton was driving when he was arrested earlier this month.
Hilton has been named a suspect or person of interest in killings in at least two disappearances in or around forests stretching from Florida to North Carolina.
