It's one of the poorest nations in Europe -- and East Carolina University is helping make an impact in medical advancement.

Doctor Ion Ababbii, Moldova's minister of health, visited the health science building on campus to see some 7,000 books ECU plans to donate.

Ababbii is traveling across the state to check out telemedicine and electronic medical record demonstrations.

The books ECU donates to Moldova are duplicate clinical books and journals.

Moldova sits northeast of Romania and was once part of the Soviet Union.
