Marine Afghan Panel Hears From Investigator In Closed Session

A special panel investigating the March shooting incident involving a Marine special operations company in Afghanistan heard testimony today in a closed session.

The panel heard from the first U.S. investigator to examine the shooting.

Air Force Colonel Patrick Pihana was appointed to investigate the shooting the day after the March 4 shooting in Nangahar Province. He concluded the report in early April, the same month a probe by the Naval Criminal investigative Service began.

A spokesman says Pihana's conclusions are part of the ongoing investigation and couldn't be released.

The Marines have testified they came under fire and shot back on Highway One after a suicide bomber detonated his vehicle nearby. An NCIS investigator testified he didn't find any evidence that the Marines were fired on before they returned fire.
