There’s an update now on the train and log truck accident Thursday afternoon on Highway-1. Motor Carrier Enforcement, a branch of the State Highway Patrol, is now studying whether the log truck's brakes failed causing the truck to hit the train. Thursday around 2:30, a truck smashed into a train just south of New Bern on Highway 17. The Department of Transportation says repair crews are currently working on the damaged railroad track so that traffic can resume on that part of the highway. The Department of Transportation says it could be as late as Saturday afternoon before the highway is reopened.
