Citizens Say "No" to Landfill

A coastal river that was once known for being polluted is facing a new threat from a landfill that could be built right on its banks. That's the fear of New Riverkeeper Mike Sanderford and dozens of Onslow County citizens, who are opposing a new dump. The landfill would handle debris from demolition and build projects in a 70 mile area. But the New River Foundation says the site is near sensitive wetlands and too close to the river. Hundreds of colorful postcards are being mailed to Onslow Commissioners by landfill opponents.
