Taking the Plunge

Nearly two hundred people took to the frigid waters off Kill Devil Hills this weekend for the fifth annual Polar Plunge. The event raised well over $11,000 for an Outer Banks YMCA scholarship fund that offsets the cost of membership for eligible families. All told, about 500 people turned out to either dip in the water or watch as children and adults in crazy costumes ran shrieking and laughing out of the freezing wave breaks. It was a little chilly for the Saturday event with the water temperature in the fifties.
