Old House Helping Cause On Outer Banks

The Chicamacomico life saving station is getting a breath of fresh air, in the form of an old house.

The state historic site just received delivery of a Hatteras Island home, with historic ties. The house has been dated back to 1907, and will be used by staff to interpret life on Hatteras during the early nineteen hundreds. Estimated at 70 tons, it took the moving company a full day to get the old house across Highway 12 to it's new home. Even though the home is two and a half stories, with a brick chimney, its dwarfed by the 6 and 8 bedroom beach cottages that now line the beach in Rodanthe.
