It's not everyday a 140 year old birthday is celebrated.

Today shots rang out to commemorate the 140th Anniversary of the end of the Civil War and the end of the use of the confederate iron clad, all of it at the site of the CSS Neuse. To remember this period of time our nation struggled to find it's bearings, 30 re-enactors from across the east and the state of Virginia presented a day-long living history tribute. Several reconstructed war instruments were on display for public viewing. Participants say the tools, swords and guns on display are skeletons from the past, but they're also models that help to expand the breadth of modern day artillery.

The CSS Neuse site is open for guided tours Monday through Friday 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
