Dollars for Dredging

Folks along the coast are cheering eastern Carolina congressmen for getting extra money to dredge dangerous inlets. But the battle is far from over at places like New River Inlet, where the U.S. Coast Guard pulled up navigational buoys last month. And, the Alliance for North Carolina's Inlets, a regional group that's trying to get more dredging money, says the issue affects people far inland, too, and a long term fix is needed. The money, $800,000 will allow the Army Corps of Engineers to dredge most of those shallow inlets just twice this year. Bogue Inlet won't get any maintenance dredging.
