Law enforcement officers made more than 4,300 arrests during a holiday campaign to catch drunken drivers.
State figures released Tuesday show that between November 30 and January 2, officers conducted nearly 13,000 sobriety checkpoints.
They made 4,367 arrests for driving while impaired, or DWI, and issued more than 155,000 traffic and criminal citations statewide.
Governor Mike Easley said the "Booze It & Lose It" campaign is sent a message that drunken driving "will not be tolerated in North Carolina."

My son was hurt by a drunk driver. He was a 19-year old college student coming home from work one night. He was hit by a driver who had just turned 21 and he had an underage driving record a mile long. My son was in a wheel chair for 3 months. He is 25 now. He still has trouble walking. So, I agree with the "Booze It & Loose It" campaign.

Govenor Mike Easley is a flipping idiot! This state would do much better with someone else at the helm. Look at the conditions of the state and the crime rates as well as the illegal immigration rates in NC! What has he been doing all these years while sitting up on the hill beside padding his pockets from the rich and stabbing the poor in the back!
