Cutting Through Cross Town Traffic

Jacksonville drivers will soon have a new, fast way to get through cross-town traffic, just not all the way across town. Workers are laying down new asphalt, finishing the first new parts of the Highway 17 Bypass that will speed travelers across Jacksonville faster on multi-lane roads and bridges. Those parts of the project are pretty much on schedule to open for traffic later this year. But not all the bypass will be done then. Connections at Western Boulevard and a new interchange to get emergency traffic to Onslow Memorial Hospital quicker are not even off the drawing board. They could take nine years or more to finish the bypass project.
