NEW INFO: Electric Worker Killed When 18-Wheeler Hits Boom

The Highway Patrol says no charges will be filed at this time in a Sunday night accident that claimed the life of an electrical worker.

Donald Deaver of Seven Springs died when he fell out of his bucket truck after it was hit by an 18-wheeler. Deaver worked for Tri County Electric for the past six years, according to general manager Mike Davis. He was working on a power outage at the time of the mishap.

The accident happened on Highway 111, south of Seven Springs. State troopers say the tractor trailer actually struck the utility truck's boom, knocking the man 26 feet to the grass shoulder.

They say Deaver's truck was partially in the travel lane, 1'9" of the support bracket was on the road. While the utility truck's amber strobe lights were working, the boom was not illuminated. Troopers say the boom was four feet in the northbound lane when the accident happened.

The state Department of Labor will be investigating whether proper safety procedures were followed. One of those is whether Deaver was wearing a safety harness in the bucket, something the Highway Patrol says they found no evidence of at the accident scene.

Deaver's funeral will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro. The 45-year-old man is survived by his wife and two children.
