Police Say First Murder of the Year in Farmville

Farmville Police in Pitt County are dealing with the first murder of the year.

Police officers say that only 5 hours into the 2005 year, at 5 a.m. Saturday morning, 31 year old Timothy Harper shot and killed 29 year old Craig Norvelle Reid, and also wounded Janice Blue who was in the home at the time of the shooting. The incident took place at 4748 Apartment C in the Forest Village Apartment complex. Police say amazingly another man in the house disarmed Harper, but that Harper was able to flee the scene. Police also say they believe this was a domestic dispute gone bad.

Harper turned himself into police officers around noon on Saturday, where he was taken into custody and is currently at the Pitt County Detention Center, charged with first degree murder, and first degree burglary.
