Pitt County lawmen responded to a second shooting Thursday night following another basketball game at North Pitt High school.

Authorities say the shooting occurred just after 10 p.m. Thursday in the school's parking lot.

Chief James Tripp of the Pitt County Sheriff's Department was patrolling the parking lot at the time and saw the shooting first hand. Tripp says several shots were fired and a 17-year-old male was shot in the leg.

Shortly after, authorities arrested 18-year-old Corey Tron Speight and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He says the shooting was over a necklace.

The sheriff's department says Tuesday night's shooting at a nearby Burger King was a totally separate and unrelated incident.
