In 2004, Eastern Carolina saw huge growth with more restaurants, wider roads and jet service from two local airports. Towns like Washington and Belhaven are focusing their efforts on tourism and downtown revitalization, while places like Greenville are attracting new restaurants and stores.
Jet service from Kinston's Global Transpark and Albert J. Ellis Airport in Jacksonville are also signs Eastern Carolina is growing. The icing on the cake is a focus on athletics. A new sports complex in Rocky Mount and a state of the art baseball stadium at East Carolina University are under construction.
