Sweet 16 Party Ends In Shooting

Violence broke out at a Washington County Shrine Club during the early morning hours Sunday.

Not the members of the club, but youths celebrating a Sweet 16 party at the facility off Highway 32 just outside of the city of Plymouth were involved in an altercation that led to the shooting of a young female party goer. Washington County deputies say an 18 year old Taurian Devar Gary drew a gun in a crowd during the party at the Shrine Club just after midnight Sunday morning following words that were exchanged between a few teens attending the party. Police say Gary fired into the crowd, and struck the young girl. Her name is not being released at this time and she was reportedly shot in the abdomen and taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Lawmen say she is expected to live. Police say they have arrested 18 year old Taurian Devar Gary and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and that more charges are possible.
