Health Premiums to Go Up and Benefits Get Cut

The health plan for state workers will need at least $220 million in additional funding to cover expenses over the next three years. But the plan's director says even if that money's found, members should still expect another round of benefit cuts and an increase in coverage premiums of at least 12 percent.

Expenses are rising sharply within the comprehensive major medical plan. That's mainly because the typical member is middle-aged and starting to develop chronic health problems such as high blood pressure and heart disease.
