Kendrick Leary, the nine-year-old Bertie County boy accused and found responsible in the death of a three-year-old was sentenced Tuesday. Leary received 90-days of diagnosis supervision and mental health treatment at a group home.
Leary's attorney says the boy will also be under probation for one year and will remain in the custody of Bertie County social services until he is allowed to return home to his family.
Malik McKinley Beverly was found dead floating inside of a septic tank at the Bertie County home of his babysitter in September.
