The mother of North Carolina first lady Mary Easley has died in Wilmington at the age of 88.
Ann Pipines was born in New York and raised her family in New Jersey before she and her husband, James, moved to Wilmington for retirement. Governor Mike Easley and Mary Easley have a home in nearby Southport.
The first lady's mother died Monday at Cape Fear Hospital.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, Mrs. Pipines is survived by two daughters and a grandson.
