Troopers Say 15 Year Old Dies In High Speed Chase

Officials say a high speed chase in Wilson turned deadly for a teenager behind the wheel.

Highway patrol troopers say that 15 year old Juan Jose Salazar was driving down US Highway 301 Saturday, when local police officers tried to pull him over. Salazar fled the scene and started going the wrong way on Highway 301 against the flow of traffic. Troopers say, Salazar was traveling around 95 miles per hour when his Thunderbird hit the pickup truck driven by 48 year old Reginald Keith Bizzell. Bizzell was treated and released from the hospital but Salazar was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where he later died. Wilson police say its unclear at this time why 15 year old Salazar fled the scene in the first place.
