The Virginian-Pilot newspaper reports today that the family that owns Landmark Communications could announce today that it plans to sell the company.
Landmark Communications owns the Norfolk newspaper, the News and Record of Greensboro, NC seven other daily newspapers
and the Weather Channel.
The privately held, Norfolk-based company could be sold in pieces. Officials with the Norfolk newspaper were told to attend a meeting this morning.
The company had nearly 2 billion dollars in sales in 2006 and employs about 12,000. It also owns more than 100 nondaily newspapers and specialty publications.
Landmark also owns television stations in Las Vegas and Nashville, Tennessee, and Norfolk-based Dominion Enterprises, a national chain of classified-ad publications.
