Greyhound Bus Crash Injures 48 Passengers & Driver

A Greyhound bus and a tractor-trailer have been involved in a wreck on U.S. 1 near Henderson.

The Highway Patrol said the wreck happened at 10:41 a.m. Wednesday.

Troopers say the tractor trailer rig was attempting a left turn and was rear ended by the bus. The bus flipped on its side along the edge of the roadway. Both southbound lanes were blocked by emergency vehicles.

The bus driver was airlifted to a hospital, while the 48 passengers on board were taken to a hospital in Vance County by EMS and a county school bus.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt.

The bus was heading from Richmond to Raleigh.

Henderson is about 45 miles north of Raleigh near the Virginia border.
