Election Official Recommends Change

Ed Pond, the Carteret County Elections Board chairman, is recommending more state oversight of each county's election process. He spoke before a legislative group Monday.

A machine malfunction caused 4,500 votes to be lost in Carteret County in November, and a special election for Agriculture Commissioner is now scheduled for there next month.

Pond believes the best way to fix the problem is to establish a system of regional supervisors who oversee county election officials, all of whom are state employees.
