Edwards Makes Last-Minute Appeal In Iowa In Newspaper, TV Ads

Former North Carolina senator John Edwards is making a final appeal to voters in Iowa in his presidential bid.

A one-minute ad will air today featuring a worker laid off from an Iowa Maytag plant who offers a testimonial to the Democratic candidate.

Edwards supplemented the television spot with a full-page ad in The Des Moines Register yesterday that includes a written message from the worker, Doug Bishop, and a lengthy essay from Edwards.

Democratic rivals Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama will also air longer-than-usual ads during the evening news on Iowa stations today.

Two recent polls show the three Democratic candidates either in a dead heat or with Obama in a slight lead.
