Fog May Have Been Factor In Deadly Motorcycle Crash

The Highway Patrol says a pickup truck driver will be charged after a collision killed a motorcyclist this morning in Craven County.

State troopers say the crash happened around 6:15 a.m. on Lake Road, south of Havelock.

They say Steven Palmer of Jacksonville was killed when his motorcycle was hit by a pickup that pulled out to pass another vehicle.

Troopers say they will charge 26-year-old Scott Newman of Havelock with misdemeanor death by vehicle. They say there were foggy conditions that may have played a part in the fatal accident.

Troopers say they believe the 54-year-old Palmer was headed to work in Havelock when the accident happened.
