A Halifax County woman is accused of stealing from the dead.
Deputies say Erica Johnson stole a bank debit card from a sick neighbor who was in the hospital and later died.
They say the 29 year old woman from Enfield then made at least 10 purchases with the card before and after the victim died. Those amounted to $1800 in purchases.
Rocky Mount police are also conducting an investigation for the card being used there as well.
In Halifax County she's charged with 10 counts of obtaining property by false pretenses and is in jail on a $100,000 bond.
