Keeping OLF out of Washington and Beaufort counties just took a big step closer to becoming a reality today as the U.S. Senate okayed the Defense Authorization Bill for 2008.
The House approved the measure Wednesday and there's no indication the President will not sign the bill.
North Carolina lawmakerS successfully added a provision that strips funding for the outlying landing field if the Navy proceeds with its preferred site, in Washington & Beaufort counties.
The OLF would be a practice field for pilots to simulate landings and takeoffs on an aircraft carrier.
The Navy has six other North Carolina sites, many of those also have met heavy opposition from local residents.
