One Eastern Carolina community hospital is now ranked in the top five percent of hospitals across the country for clinical excellence. Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston was recently given a "Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence."
Nearly 5000 hospitals nationwide were considered for this award, but only 229 actually made the list. About half the hospitals selected were non-teaching facilities, like Lenoir.
Healthgrades based their decision on the hospital's complication and mortality rates. The three other North Carolina hospitals that made the list? Rex Hospital in Raleigh, Mission Saint Joseph's Health System in Asheville and FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
