Protecting Neighbors and the Coastline

Safety is what it's all about in Carteret County. A major project to move a coastal inlet begins this week at Emerald Isle to protect neighbors, visitors and boaters. A huge dredge will set up here in Bogue Inlet later this week to begin moving the waterway 3500 feet West of threatened homes at the Western tip of Emerald Isle. But while that work is going on, some folks might want to steer clear of those trouble waters.

The heavy equipment, miles of big pipes and tight deadlines, will make things a little crowded at one end of the beach. But, there's still plenty of room for beach lovers to walk the strand. It will cost about $9.8-million move Bogue Inlet and put more than four miles of new sand along the strand there in Emerald Isle.
