A bizarre set of circumstances surrounds the discovery of the body of 20-year-old James Brandon Louis near Beaufort Monday.
The Carteret County Sheriff's Department says Louis went to sleep at the Otway home of 37-year-old Albert Ricky Hibbs after a party Friday night. Saturday afternoon, officials tell us, Hibbs' wife checked in on Louis and saw he needed medical attention.
Lawmen say Albert Hibbs and a neighbor tried CPR to no avail, but Hibbs would not let anyone call 911. Instead, authorities say, Hibbs drove the body nine miles away and buried it.
Lawmen say Hibbs did so because he was afraid he wouldn't get his kids back. They were removed by social services last year because a man was beaten to death in Hibbs' yard.
A cause of death has not been determined for Louis. Hibbs was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and obstruction of justice.
