Stocks Rise In Early Going

Stock prices are higher in the early going. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up. The Nasdaq Composite Index is ahead. The Standard-and-Poor's 500 Stock Index is up.

A pair of fresh reports are helping soothe worries about the economy, at least for now. ADP Employer Services says 189,000 jobs were added last month. That's watched for indications how this Friday's government employment report might be shaping up.

The Labor Department reports worker productivity advanced by an
annual rate of 6.3 percent in the summer, the fastest pace in four years, while wage pressures eased.

Still to come today, are reports on factory orders and manufacturing.

It is expected that the Fed will lower rates to help the economy. The central bank meets next Tuesday.
