Brother Of ECU Athletic Director Thought Financial Aid Was OK

The brother of East Carolina University's athletic director says he was uncomfortable getting financial aid from the athletic department but felt he had done nothing wrong.

A school auditor thought differently, saying a $25,000 aid package was "inappropriate" and amounted to special treatment when compared to other students working in the department.

Gregg Holland is the 51-year-old younger brother of ECU Athletic Director Terry Holland. The audit didn't name him as the money
recipient, referring only to a relative.

But he tells the News & Observer of Raleigh that he thought everything was out in the open, so he assumed the financial aid didn't violate any rules.

Holland is a business student at ECU. School officials say his brother terminated payments after the audit.
