As winter weather settles into eastern Carolina, folks of all ages are working to stay warm.
New Bern resident Helen Diaz says she usually wears a big coat or stays indoors. Tuesday though, she was putting up Christmas decorations in her yard with her husband. While they prepare for the holiday season, the cold weather has left them a little less prepared for their latest gas bill of over $300.00.
Officials with the Craven County department of social services say they do offer some heating assistance for seniors. To be considered, you must fill out an application.
