A former Washington police officer has admitted he targeted Hispanic motorists, robbing them during traffic stops.

Steven Hilsinger today pleaded guilty to four misdemeanor civil rights violations in federal court.

Prosecutors say back in November and December of 2005, Hilsinger stopped Hispanic motorists for minor traffic violations. Instead of merely asking for their drivers licenses, they say Hilsinger took their entire wallets. The feds say on the first occasion the officer stole $60, while the second time he took $40.

Then in September of 2006, prosecutors say again Hilsinger targeted Hispanic drivers and stole money, only this time the victim was an undercover police officer. On those occasions, $220 and $120 were taken.

The police officer resigned shortly after his arrest.

Hilsinger's sentencing is set for March 3rd.

softwhispers......you seem very judgmental and your comments are racially motivated. you may want to look into getting help for both of those problems. Not everything and everyone on America is as "black and white" as you would like to think they are! To me, illegal immigrants living in the United States collecting welfare, wic, child care assistance, or medicaid are worse than theives......so what do you think should happen to them? I was not saying what he did was right...all I was saying was that there are two sides to every story and from what the newspapers say, he was set-up based on the word of a bunch of illegal immigrants who are no better than he is!

I definitely think he should be punished, but I do feel that if this was an ordinary person, this would not have been that big of a deal. Nobody would have cared. i also agree with Tom....there are two sides to every story!" "There are two sides to every story?"-- yeah right, when it involves a white person doing the mischief and got caught. If this cop was a hispanic or a black I bet many of the below comments would have been mighty different. Stealing is wrong no matter if you're white, black, hispanic, an illegal alien, OR A COP!

I do know him. I went to school with him. he was a ggood guy back then and my guess is that hasn't changed. He does have a family. And if illegal immigrants were paying taxes in the first place like the rest of us, then police officers and law enforcement may be granted the pay increases they deserve and would not have to resort to this kind of behavior! I have to agree with lynn? Since when do illegal immigrants have the same rights as we do? I definitely think he should be punished, but I do feel that if this was an ordinary person, this would not have been that big of a deal. Nobody would have cared. i also agree with Tom....there are two sides to every story!
